The Flower from a Poisoned Seed by Jonathan C. David

A Memoir of Childhood Trauma, Sexual Masochism, and Eventually, a Good Measure of Wellbeing.

“Jonathan David’s searing memoir is written from the depths of his soul. With the precision of an investigative journalist and heart of a poet, he generously offers the reader an unflinching view of his desolation, despair, and his demons. With great perseverance, he is driven by his inherent belief that understanding his mind would ultimately liberate him, as he says, ‘get to the bottom’ of things. A most illustrative account of how insights into early trauma can save one’s life.”
– Ira Brenner, MD, author of Injured Men

Excerpt from “Together Let Us Sweetly Live”

In the earlier years of the 20th century, according to the older people of today, many African-American residents of tidewater Maryland and Delaware would, in late summer, set aside their tools, leave their cornfields just when the tassels on each stalk turned golden and the tips of each blade changed from green to brown, leave their tomatoes when a soft blush of red appeared on the hard green fruit, allow, for a time, their beans and sweet potatoes and melons to ripen on their own, and make their way by horse and wagon, by car, or by bus to a Methodist camp meeting to attend to their sacred work.
